Jakarta, Indonesia : 2-Day Private Equity Bootcamp 2025

CFA Society Indonesia, in collaboration with Mink Learning, hosted a 2-Day Private Equity Bootcamp in Jakarta. Led by Steve Balaban, CFA, the program delivered a well-structured blend of fundamentals, hands-on negotiation practice, and a dedicated deep dive into private equity due diligence.

Day 1 introduced participants to private equity fundamentals, covering how deals are structured, the roles of Limited Partners (LPs) and General Partners (GPs), and key economic arrangements such as waterfall agreements. The day also featured a negotiation simulation between the buying and selling sides, giving participants practical experience with valuation discussions, ownership scenarios, and deal terms.

Day 2 focused on private equity due diligence. Through a guided case study, participants identified red flags, crafted key due diligence questions, examined company characteristics such as ownership structure and governance, and developed an analytical approach to assessing a potential investment.

Key takeaways from the 2-Day Bootcamp included:

1. A Clear Understanding of Private Equity Fundamentals

Attendees learned the structure of private equity transactions, LP–GP dynamics, and how value is created throughout the investment lifecycle.

2. Hands-On Negotiation Experience Through Simulation

The negotiation exercise allowed participants to experience real-world deal-making, including valuation, negotiation strategy, and competitive bidding.

3. Practical Application of Due Diligence Techniques

Participants practiced identifying red flags, preparing due diligence questions, and evaluating both qualitative and quantitative factors that influence an investment decision.

The Jakarta program offered participants a complete and practical overview of private equity, combining foundational knowledge with hands-on application.
